बेनी बेहानन, केरल के एक सांसद और अनुभवी राजनेता, जिनका जन्म 22 अगस्त 1952 को एर्नाकुलम जिले के वेंगोला में हुआ था। उन्होंने अपने पिता ओ थॉमस और मां छिन्नम्मा से मूल्यों को आत्मसात किया। उनके पिता एक स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और एक प्रसिद्ध शिक्षक थे, जिन्होंने बेनी बेहानन को कांग्रेस और गांधी और नेहरू की शिक्षाओं के साथ बढ़ने में मदद की। अपनी छोटी उम्र के दौरान वे गांधी जी के आदर्शों, अहिंसा, बंधुत्व, समानता और बहुलवाद के शौकीन थे।

उन्होंने अपने स्कूल के दिनों में अपने सार्वजनिक जीवन की शुरुआत की। वे सलेम हाई स्कूल वेंगोला में केएसयू के यूनिट अध्यक्ष थे।

उन्होंने श्री शंकर कॉलेज कलाडी से स्नातक की उपाधि प्राप्त की और उन्होंने सरकारी लॉ कॉलेज एर्नाकुलम में कानून का अध्ययन किया। अपने छात्र जीवन के दौरान वह केएसयू के तालुक और जिला अध्यक्ष थे।

उन्हें वर्ष 1978 में केरल छात्र संघ के राज्य अध्यक्ष के रूप में चुना गया था। 1979 में उन्हें युवा कांग्रेस केरल के राज्य महासचिव के रूप में पदोन्नत किया गया और 1982 तक जारी रखा गया। 1981 में उन्हें KPCC कार्यकारी समिति में नामित किया गया था। वर्ष 1996 के बाद से वे एआईसीसी के सदस्य रहे हैं और उन्होंने 17 वर्षों की अवधि के लिए केरल प्रदेश कांग्रेस कमेटी के महासचिव के रूप में भी काम किया है।

वर्ष 2010 में केरल प्रदेश कांग्रेस कमेटी ने उन्हें जिला कांग्रेस कमेटी त्रिशूर के अध्यक्ष के रूप में नियुक्त किया। अखिल भारतीय कांग्रेस कमेटी ने उन्हें 2018 से 2020 की अवधि के लिए यूडीएफ का संयोजक नियुक्त किया।

1.9.2016 को कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी ने केरल में 21 सदस्यीय राजनीतिक मामलों की समिति का गठन किया और कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष ने उनका नाम राजनीतिक मामलों की समिति में शामिल किया और तब से वह राजनीतिक मामलों की समिति के सदस्य के रूप में काम कर रहे हैं।

वह दो बार केरल विधान सभा के सदस्य थे, 1982 में उन्होंने पीरवम निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से चुनाव लड़ा और चुनाव जीता। उन्होंने 1982 से 1987 तक पिरवम निर्वाचन क्षेत्र का प्रतिनिधित्व किया था। वर्ष 2011 में उन्होंने थ्रीक्काकारा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से चुनाव लड़ा और 2011 से 2016 तक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र का प्रतिनिधित्व किया।

उन्होंने विमुद्रीकरण की कठिनाई के दौरान एक मूल्यवान पुस्तक लिखकर अर्थशास्त्र और राजनीति में अपने गहन ज्ञान को साबित किया। पुस्तक “ഡിമോണിറ്റൈസേഷൻ സംഘടിത കുറ്റവും നിയമാനുസൃത കൊള്ളയും” भारत के महान फिल्म निर्माता अदूर गोपालकृष्णन द्वारा प्रकाशित की गई थी। वह केरल में कांग्रेस पार्टी के मुखपत्र वीकशनम के प्रबंध निदेशक भी थे।

जब वे विधान सभा के सदस्य थे, तब उन्होंने “സാന്ത്വനം” नामक एक कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया, जिसमें थ्रीक्काकारा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र में कॉमरेड रोगियों, वृद्धों, विधवाओं और अलग-अलग विकलांग लोगों सहित जरूरतमंद और असहाय व्यक्तियों को त्वरित राहत प्रदान की गई।

9 जनवरी 1983 को उन्होंने शिक्षा में स्नातक शर्ली से शादी की, विवाह में उनके दो बच्चे हैं, वेणु थॉमस और वीना थॉमस। उनके दो पोते इवा सुसान थॉमस और फ्रेया भी हैं। अब वह अंगमाली में रह रहे हैं

उन्होंने महामारी की अवधि के दौरान अपने निर्वाचन क्षेत्र के लोगों के कल्याण पर अपना पूरा ध्यान केंद्रित किया और उन्होंने COVID-19 के प्रसार को रोकने के लिए कई पहल की और अपने निर्वाचन क्षेत्र के मल्लक्कापारा में आदिवासी लोगों को मुफ्त टीके भी दिए और सामूहिक टीकाकरण शिविर का आयोजन किया। अपने निर्वाचन क्षेत्र के विकलांग लोगों के लिए। ये सभी प्रयास अन्य राजनीतिक कार्यकर्ताओं को महामारी संकट से उबरने के लिए अपना योगदान देने के लिए प्रेरित करते हैं। समाज में समानता कायम करने का उनका प्रयास बिना किसी रुकावट के जारी है।

वास्तव में एक दूरदर्शी राजनेता जो केरल में लोगों की भलाई के लिए कड़ी मेहनत कर रहे हैं। समर्पित नेता, गांधी और नेहरू की शिक्षाओं का पालन करते हुए, बंधुत्व समानता अहिंसा और बहुलवाद जैसे कांग्रेस पार्टी के मूल्यों को आत्मसात करते हुए।

Benny Behanan , A parliamentarian and seasoned politician from Kerala, born on 22nd August 1952 at Vengola in Ernakulam District. He imbibed values from his father O. Thomas and mother Chinnamma . His father was a freedom fighter and a renowned teacher ,which helped Benny Behanan to grow with Congress and teachings of Gandhi and Nehru. During his young age he was fond of nonviolence ,fraternity ,equality and pluralism , the ideals of Gandhi ji.

He started his public life during his school days.He was the unit president of KSU in Salem High school Vengola.

He was graduated from Sree Sankara College Kalady and he studied law at Government Law College Ernakulam. During his student days he was the Taluk and District president of KSU.

He was elected as the state president of Kerala Students Union in the year 1978. In 1979 he was elevated as the State General Secretary of youth Congress Kerala and continued till 1982. In 1981 he was nominated in the KPCC executive committee. From the year 1996 onwards he has been a member of the AICC and he also worked as the general secretary of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee for a period of 17 long years.

In the year 2010 The Kerala Pradesh Congress committee deputed him as the President of the district Congress committee Thrissur. All India Congress committee appointed him as the convenor of UDF for a period of 2018 to 2020.

On 1.9.2016 Congress president Sonia Gandhi constituted 21 members political affairs committee in Kerala and the Congress president included his name in the political affairs committee and from then onwards he has been working as a member of the political affairs committee.

He was a member of the Kerala legislative assembly twice, in 1982 he contested from Piravam constituency and won the election. He had been represented the piravam constituency from 1982 to 1987. In the year 2011 he contested the election from Thrikkakara constituency and had been represented constituency from 2011 to 2016.

He proved his in-depth knowledge in economics and politics by writing a valuable book during the hardship of demonetisation. The book “ഡിമോണിറ്റൈസേഷൻ സംഘടിത കുറ്റവും നിയമാനുസൃത കൊള്ളയും”Was published by Adoor Gopalakrishnan , the legendary filmmaker of India. He was also the Managing Director of Veekshanam, Mouthpiece of the Congress party in Kerala.

While he was the member of the legislative assembly he conducted a programme named “സാന്ത്വനം” which offered speedy relief to the needy and hapless persons including comorbid patients, aged, widowed and differently abled people in the Thrikkakara constituency.

On 9th January 1983 he married Sherly,a graduate in education, have two children in the wedlock, Venu Thomas and Veena Thomas . He also have two grand children Eva Susan Thomas and Freya. Now he is residing in Angamaly

He put his entire focus on the welfare of the people in his constituency during the pandemic period and he did several initiative to prevent the spreading of COVID-19 and also contributed free vaccines to the tribal people at Mallakkapara in his constituency and conducted mass vaccination camp for the disabled people in his constituency. All these efforts inspire other political workers to contribute their part to overcome the pandemic Distress. His endeavour to prevail equality in the society has been continuing without any hindrance.

Truly a visionary politician who has been working hard for the betterment of people in Kerala. The dedicated leader ,following the teachings of Gandhi and Nehru ,imbibing the values of the Congress party such as Fraternity equality nonviolence and pluralism.
